Voiceless India's foundation was laid by Ankit Puri, a 17 year old Animal Rights Activist. Since the age of 13, he began volunteering at Friendicoes SECA, an animal shelter in New Delhi. While organizing fundraisers at his school for the shelter, he found that other teenagers and teachers were oblivious to the plight of animals. This led him to think of a way to spread awareness and encourage people to be kind to animals.
He began conducting school sessions at the age of 17 and talking to young minds about the need to co-exist. Alongside his school commitments, he took offs from school visiting government authorities to get permissions for holding cleanliness and plantation drives, and was able to get mulitple schools to participate in them. His passion carried on post his school years as he moved to the city of Bengaluru for his rigorous course at Christ (Deemed to be University). After having been involved with PETA's campaigns, Ankit learned about Veganism, researched extensively about it and adopted it on his 19th birthday.
Within a few months, Voiceless India was running across Delhi NCR and Bengaluru with Vegan Animal Rights Workshops being conducted in both cities. In Bengaluru, the organization began hiring interns and that's how Padmapriya Mohan, their Social Media Manager took over the social media vertical. Creating impactful posts was another way to reach out to the public and spread the seed of veganism.
Voiceless India began doing outreaches at various other events with a fresh set of interns, every 2 months, who had the drive and commitment to make a compassionate and kind world for the animals. In New Delhi, Yatish Bajpai and Manisha Chaudhury Sharma, two dedicated Vegan Animal Rights Activists, part of Delhi Vegans for Animal Liberation group, joined Voiceless India as Workshop Facilitators taking charge of the Delhi NCR Workshops.
Around the same time, Nisha Varma, an avid graphic designer and Ankit's childhood friend, joined as Voiceless India's Creative Design Head to create merchandise, badges and advertising material for the organization.
It was not long before Manasa D L, their project coordinator stepped in as operations grew and managing them was getting hectic with Ankit's college program and late night working hours. She beautifully balanced coordination between Voiceless India's partner organizations and created new collaborations.
Voiceless India began exploring new avenues of outreach along with school workshops such as event outreaches, restaurant outreaches, advertising awareness and even an exclusive radio show! Throughout this new journey of exploration, Neha Nair joined the organization as an intern and within a few months, her energy and passion made her their interim project coordinator.
Today, they stand strong with the same zeal and commitment as when they started off, and strive to bring animal rights on the global map of relevant social issues.
And the journey continues...
